The Johnson County “Bad Check” Program was created to help businesses and private individuals recover losses from bad checks–at no cost to you! In order for us to be able to help you it is very important that you follow the policies and guidelines that are outlined in this package.
The most important thing you must do to help us prosecute the person who writes you a bad check is get good identification from him at the time he writes you the check. Without identification information we can not collect on your bad check. The best way to get important identity information is to require check writers to show you picture ID such as a driver’s license or state identification card. Copy onto the check the driver’s license number (or ID number), social security number (if available), and the date of birth. The signature on the picture ID should be compared with the signature on the check. The person who accepts the check should put his or her initials on it.
Our office cannot accept bad checks for collection that do not have sufficient information for legal process to issue. We welcome all businesses and individuals to use our program and we look forward to being able to help you.
